     Climb aboard to take part in an exciting trip around the world.  These lessons are designed to enrich and extend our classroom unit that takes a group of 4th and 5th graders around the globe.  Reading requirement are first to third grade level, with an emphasis on practical life skills and an increase in general knowledge about the planet we live on.  Lessons will be presented for all subjects and can be adjusted to differing individual skill levels.  All aboard!                        

Internet Lessons

Lesson #1:  First Stop is Greece. Your plane arrives and you have one day to do some fact finding. Use the "The World Fact Book" to gather information on this and any other country you are studying.

Lesson # 2:  Next, we board a plane to Africa.  We will be visiting the very interesting country of Egypt.  See what you can learn, and be ready to give a report to the class.

      Now, lets check out another great site about the continent of Africa.               

Lesson #3 :  Let's go now to Japan to study another very different culture.  Click on "Explore Japan", then click on "Nature and Climate" and read the information about Japan. Use your study guide to answer the questions. 

Lesson #4:  For another fun lesson, access the games link on this Japanese Site, then click on Japan puzzle to test your skills putting together the jig saw puzzle pieces to form a map of Japan.

Lesson #5:  Follow this link to "Australia".  Study this site to learn about Australia, then take the quiz!

       Next, ask your teacher for your research project papers, then follow this link to find more fun and amazing facts about the "Land Down Under".

Lesson #6:  Take a trip to "Antarctica". Start with a quiz to test your knowledge. Explore the links while filling in the Venn Diagram in your "Polar Biome" booklet. At the end of this unit take the quiz again to see how much you have learned!

Lesson #7:  This is a great place to get some help on writing a report on "Antarctic Animals". Choose one of the animals listed. Draw and color a picture of it. Then complete the report form in your booklet. When you are done, you can print out some information found at this site to help you prepare for your oral report.

Lesson #8:  Explore the Artic region through pictures at "Arctic Theme Page".  Choose from many listings to learn about the Arctic Circle.

Lesson #9: Check this site out to read about "Artic Animals". Choose your favorite and prepare an oral report to give to your class. A print out of facts and a picture is available for each animal. Use 3 x 5 cards to record key words to help you during your report.

Lesson #10:  Scroll to the top of this page and click on "Rainforest Project" to study the rain forest area of South America.  The Amazon River rain forest is full of exotic life.  Enjoy the links and discover what life in the rain forests of South America is like.

Lesson 11:  Click on "Illinois" to discover interesting facts about your state.  Use this site to fill in the information needed to complete your Illinois packet.

Lesson 12:  Click on any one of the U.S. flags below to check out three different sites with fabulous information on our great United States of America!

Lesson 13: Click on great USA Map Puzzle Games to help you learn USA capitals, states, and geography at various levels of difficulty. It's fun to click and drag each item to its correct location on a USA map!

 

Use these lessons for any country you are studying!

Lesson A: All countries need to practice recycling. To have a ton of fun on a recycling scavenger hunt, just click on Recycle City and follow the directions on your scavenger hunt paper.

Lesson B: Many countries are represented in the Olympics. Visit this site to take an Olympics Quiz using the picture dictionary "Little Explorers". Lots of information on Greece too!

WHERE IN THE SCHOOL IS....

     Students: Try to locate where this picture was taken inside Midwest Central Primary School. Then write, in your journal, a brief description of the items in the picture and where they were found.
