c1930-1935
| This stage shows yet another
attempt to make the hook rigging stronger. The glass eyes and large cups are still
being used, but the line tie and rear hook are now attached to each other by one
continuous wire running entirely through the body. This is commonly called
wire-through rig. During this stage, South Bend also started painting its
Surf-Orenos with the cups already attached, further dividing this stage into 5A with
unpainted cups and 5B with painted cups. |
